Collection of Quotes about Light and Darkness

My inspiration for this blog and its title, The Midnight Station, is hidden behind the idea of light and darkness; I want to create a space where people can find some positivity, motivation and advice in times when they feel a bit lost or a bit discouraged and doubtful, when they’re looking for some sort of sign or guidance, amongst many other things. I want to let people know what even in times of darkness, there are moments of light or the hope of light. So I’ve put together a few of my favourite quotes about the binary of light and dark, how they inform one another, and how they represent some of the parts of the human psychology and journey. Please let me know some of your favourite quotes around this theme, as I’d love to add more to my collection!

Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness – Desmond Tutu

People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within – Elisabeth Kübler-Ross

Only in the darkness can we see the stars – Martin Luther King Jr

It’s always darkest before the dawn – Florence and the Machine (‘Shake It Out’)

I loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night – Galileo

How far that little candle throws his beams! So shines a good deed in a weary world – Shakespeare (The Merchant of Venice)

We can’t live in the light all of the time. You have to take whatever light you can hold into the dark with you – Libba Bray (A Great and Terrible Beauty)

  1. et your love song sing, peeling off the layers of fear that leave many shrouded in darkness because perfect love casts out fear. Let your life song usher a new dawn, let it be a light through which we see all that is good in humanity.
