Thought of the Day: Forgiveness

How often do you forgive? To what end do you forgive? What does forgiveness mean to you?

Forgiveness can be cleansing, but it needs to be used properly; forgiveness shouldn’t be a tool to escape tough situations or an act of submissiveness to being manipulated and pushed around. At the same time, we shouldn’t withhold forgiveness as a means of control or as a way to make ourselves feel worthy.

Forgiveness is powerful. It is important to remember that forgiveness doesn’t always mean we go back to the way things were or that we have to trust someone again. It means we accept the past and endeavour to make the future better. It means we let go of our negative energy towards others or ourselves and move on to focus on what lies in front of us. It means we learnt something from a mistake or hardship and we’re equipped for similar battles ahead. Use forgiveness wisely, not sparingly.
