Thought of the Day: Mistakes

Mistakes quote

Mistakes. Some might say that they lessen with age. But truthfully, as we get older, we just get more afraid of trying and failing. So we stop putting ourselves out there. But we need to let go of this perception that mistakes are bad. There is no such thing as a bad mistake – with only one exception. The worst mistake we can make is to not forgive others or ourselves for mistakes. Sometimes good people make bad choices. Sometimes people make mistakes with good intentions. Sometimes people don’t mean to at all. Including us. If we try to avoid making mistakes, we’ll just end up avoiding life. And life goes on, whether you want to follow it or not. Make sure it doesn’t leave you behind.

Thought of the Day: Shame

never_be_ashamed_of_what_you_love_by_fangirlgeekout-d8kz85j

We all feel shame at one time or another. We’re moulded to tread the fine line between right and wrong carefully. In many ways, shame illustrates our humanity; it encourages us to admit our wrongdoings, to apologise and to try and make amends. Shame should more of a stepping stone than a heavy boulder. But there are many things we should never have to apologise for, even if society deems it unacceptable. We shouldn’t ever feel ashamed of how much money we have, where we live or what we do for a living. We shouldn’t ever feel ashamed of our friends or family. We shouldn’t ever feel ashamed of the past or how we feel. We shouldn’t ever feel ashamed of who we are, no matter how many quirky, flawed parts dwell inside us. This kind of shame should be a rock we toss in the water. Don’t let shame tear you apart. Let it go and just be you.

Dare or Disappear

Theodore Roosevelt quote

We would never be able to fall in love if we weren’t willing to take the chance of heartbreak. We would never be able to taste victory without accepting the possibility of defeat. We would never progress forward without overcoming the threats of limits. We would never learn to appreciate what we have without having lost something valuable. We would never know how strong we can be without being pulled apart piece by piece. Let’s not hide from the beauty of life in fear that we will find run into unpleasantries. Life is only experienced in its entirety when we are open to all its offerings. Let’s not become one of those who lives in “the gray twilight that knows not victory or defeat”.
