Have courage and be kind. Who would have thought something to simple could be so powerful. Ella promises to follow these last words from her mother in a recent adaptation of Cinderella. In 2018, I’m going to follow them too.
Having courage is about believing in yourself and lifting yourself up, not being weighed down by the opinions of others, but pursuing your own passions and ambitions, dreams and inklings, ideas and paths. And being kind is about staying grounded throughout, by not forgetting where you come from, and being grateful for all that surrounds you – most especially those around you, from stranger to loved one. With a bit more courage and kindness, life can only be better. I’ll definitely be keeping these words close in 2018.
The energy we exhale into the world will quickly become the air we breathe. If we always focus on what’s wrong in our lives, on what’s wrong in others, on what’s wrong with the world, life will always seem drained of good and hope, because it’s all we’ll ever notice. But if we believe in ourselves and root for others, if we love ourselves and treat others well, the world will look abundant and generous. Be mindful of the energies you send out into the world, because the one most likely to suffer from it is yourself. Look at life with positivity, and you life will instantly be transformed.

If you can dream it, you can see it. If you can see it, you can achieve it. Anything is possible when we put our minds to it. The world would be a very different place if people didn’t believe in their dreams and pursue them. There wouldn’t be any invention. There wouldn’t be any solution. People are constantly trying, succeeding, doing what they love. Have the courage and you can do it too.
In life, we’ll face setbacks, obstacles and injustice. But don’t give up on life. Never stop fighting for what you believe in, for what is right, and never stop believing it can come true. What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger. And love will win against hate.
Hope to never grow up. Never stop learning. Never stop questioning. Never stop believing. Never stop exploring. Never take life too seriously. Never stay trapped in a life you hate. Never say never. But there’s a certain magic that our young selves see in the world that slowly loses its sparkle as we grow up. Never lose that magic. If you do, life loses its magic too.
Don’t surrender all your joy for an idea you used to have about yourself that isn’t true anymore. ~ Cheryl Strayed
It always seems impossible until it’s done. We have to have faith that the lightbulb will turn on. Without that, the impossible will remain impossible. Have belief in yourself, confidence in your ideas and courage in your pursuits. It doesn’t matter how crazy people think you are – if you put your mind to it, it can be done. And when the impossible becomes possible, that’s when the magic happens. If Thomas Edison had given up at the first sign of the impossible, we never would have had the lightbulb at all.
We owe it to life, to the world, and most of all to ourselves to keep going. To pick ourselves up when we fall over. To love ourselves when we’re broken. There’s heartache in life. Sometimes we have to remind ourselves that things could be worse. And when things are worse, we have to remind ourselves that things will be better again. Let’s not allow heartache to become the soundtrack of our lives. We have to keep believing in the beauty of life and finding it. It’s not always easy, but it’s what makes life worth living in spite of the harder times.
You have a quiet fierceness inside. It can whisper, it can roar. Don’t drown it out with arrogance or doubt. Believe in your inner worth, inner confidence, inner ability. Nothing will take you further than belief in yourself. Nobody will take you further than you. Roar from within.
That moment when we are falling can be the most terrifying. We cannot tell how far we’ll fall, how hard the hit will be or how devastating the aftermath will be. Rarely do we ever picture ourselves catching a second wind. But we can. Falling isn’t a problem if we don’t let the fall be the end. We all make mistakes but we can all recover from them. We can bounce back and catch our second wind. We might not land in the same place as before; it will be an even better destination. Believe you can and it will.
