Radiators and drains

The people around us affect the energy around us. Some radiate. Others drain. Positivity, hope, strength, love all grow with radiators and wilt with drains. Who are you letting into your life? What energy consumes you? And who are you being for yourself and others? If we keep taking, from others and from ourselves, we’ll soon realise we have nothing anyway. If we keep giving, to others and to ourselves, we’ll soon find much more than we hoped to have.

How others treat you

You deserve to be treated with kindness and compassion. You deserve to be treated with respect and dignity. You deserve to be told the truth. You deserve to be cared for and attended to, but you also deserve your freedom and independence. You deserve to be appreciated and loved. You deserve to be who you are. Don’t let others treat you differently. Everyone deserves a second chance, but those who manipulate you, abuse you, ignore you, judge you or try to change you are not worth your time, your care, your love or your tears. Don’t waste it on them, but give your gift of kindness to someone who reciprocates.

Kindness is a currency

Every time you touch another soul, let them take a piece of you with them. Every time you wipe a tear, listen attentively, lend a hand, shout encouragement, thank politely, stand up for someone and so on, you establish, reinforce and restore the cycle of kindness. You can brighten up someone’s day. You can be that one good thing in someone’s otherwise horrible day. And that makes all the difference. Kindness is a currency we can abundantly share and never run out of, that we all possess and all can use. And someone else will pass it on. Don’t be afraid to give it away. One day someone will pass it back to you at a time when you need it most, because someone else didn’t let the cycle break.

The gift of time

Gift of time

Time is our most precious gift, to give and to receive. It’s perhaps one taken most for granted, because we’re spending it constantly. But time is one gift that is truly irreplaceable, valuable and magical. Time spent listening, comforting, loving, laughing, helping is never wasted. That time shapes our memories and our character, and those of the people around us. Time brings life alive. Time is a treasure we should share more often. We can never get it back, so we might as well spend it abundantly.

Let go of the people who don’t deserve us

steve maraboli relationship quote

Relationships and friendships aren’t always ships that sail smoothly. Sometimes we’re taken for granted. Sometimes we’re treated poorly. Sometimes we’re barred from being ourselves. Sometimes people pour their negativity onto us. Done consistently, it can take a toll on us. It drains our happiness, shreds our confidence and strips away our positivity and faith in the world. Sometimes we have to let those people go. Because we deserve better. We deserve people who give as much as they take. We deserve people who appreciate us in both their good and bad times and who are there for us in our good and bad times. Sometimes we have to let people go in order to welcome others.

Who you’re with this holiday season

What really matters

The holiday season can sometimes be stressful. We want to have a magical time with our loved ones, and that can put a lot of pressure on ourselves to make it happen for everyone. To make it a little less stressful, we sometimes have to alter our perspective. Our expectations won’t always match our reality, and that’s ok. Sometimes the most memorable times are the spontaneous ones. Sometimes the most memorable times are the quietest ones. But most of all, the most memorable times depend on who we’re with. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what we do, but who we share this time with. It’s the ones we’re with who will ultimately make it magical. Let’s not stress about the holiday time. Let it happen naturally.
