Starting is both exhilarating and terrifying. There’s a voice in our head asking ‘How great will it be if I take on this journey? How great will it be if I succeed?’ But it’s often drowned out by a louder voice, questioning ‘What if I fail? What if I stumble? What if I give up and can’t do it anymore?’ Little do we know that mistakes, failures, setbacks, they’ll catch us whatever we do – wouldn’t the biggest mistake be not trying at all? Nowhere in its definition does starting have an expiration date. It’s not only available in the New Year, at the beginning of the month or on a Monday. We can start whenever we want, we can start again as many times as we need, and we can change our path along the way. It doesn’t matter how many times we fall down, as long as we pick ourselves back up again. Don’t let that loud terrified voice drown out the exhilarated one. Today is the day to take that step towards something great.
Today may be filled with challenges. But you are made out of challenges. You’ve conquered them before and you will conquer them again. Take a deep breath. You’ve got this. Shut down the negative self-talk. You can do it, so get to it. Don’t let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game. Because you’re not just a player, you’re the master, and you can do anything you put your mind to.
The world is your oyster. You have to swim around in the darkness before you stumble upon it. You have to believe in your power to break it open. You have to have faith that you’ll find something inside. But the world is yours – there’s so much possibility, opportunity, potential, choice. Do whatever it takes to create a life you want. Don’t let anything hold you back, especially yourself.
Remember why you started and keep going. Look back at how far you’ve come and keep going. Imagine where you could be and keep going. Keep going, keep trying, keep hustling. Think how much you’ll have to show for it. Whether you end up making a u-turn, staring at a crossroad, or coming to a dead-end, just keep going. Don’t sit on the fence and let life pass by.
Don’t be pushed by your problems. Be led by your dreams. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Quote of the day.
Sometimes we get that high from life, that burst of energy, that swing in our step. We want to conquer everything on our list of goals and visions. But after a while, we lose that high, that burst, that swing, because we’re so overwhelmed, disorientated and exhausted by our plans. We need to realise that we sometimes have to start from the bottom of the staircase and sometimes we can only see the first few steps. Don’t try and create a whole new lifestyle with the snap of a finger. To keep that high, that burst, that swing, we have to pace ourselves and realise that we will need to work on ourselves and our craft. You’ll go much further if you take your time.
Allow yourself to wish for what you want. It may seem out of reach, but you are more than capable of pulling it down from the sky. Don’t keep telling yourself you won’t make it. Don’t keep telling yourself you don’t deserve it. We can only have the life we want if we dare to go for it, if we believe we can do it, and if we persevere. Stop holding yourself back. The world won’t hand it to you.
