You are more than labels. You are more than pain. You are more than your mistakes. You are more than the pressure. You are not coloured in black and white. You are not a single note on a manuscript or a single page in a book. You are more than a reflection or a shadow. You are more than a number on a scale. Don’t listen to others who tell you so. Don’t let others pack you in a box they’ve created for you. Don’t be an ‘or’ because you’re an ‘and’. You are more than one thing you do or say or believe. You can be anything you want to be. You can change your mind. You can be more than you think you can be.
It’s ok to live life out of sequence. It’s ok to live life back to front. It’s ok to live life off beat. There are no rules, no expectations, no destinies, except the ones we impose on ourselves. Live the life you want to live, regardless of the labels others try to place on you. To live life to the fullest, we sometimes have to take a leap of faith or take a second chance. And that might seem strange to others, but it doesn’t matter, as long as it feels right to you. Don’t let the misleading idea of ‘normality’ stop you from being who you want to be and doing what you love. It’s ok to live a life others don’t understand.
Be unapologetically you. We all have so much to give, and that gift is beyond rules, regulations and labels. Our thoughts, beliefs and attitude define who we are. Our actions, our gestures, and our quirks define who we are. Our passion, our words and our lifestyles define who we are. We define who we are. We might never be fully satisfied with who we are, but there’s no need to hide ourselves away. There’s plenty of space for everyone to express themselves. Being unapologetically you is the best thing you can do.
We all have an endless supply of blank spaces to fill. Spaces to shape who we are. Spaces to discover and explore. Spaces to learn and think. Spaces to try and fall and try again. Spaces to imagine and build. We all have endless opportunities, possibilities, and fates. We’re not stuck on one road or labelled as one person. We can be whoever we want to be, do whatever we want to do, and more. Let’s not limit ourselves. Let’s let go. Let’s make the most of it. Dwell in possibility and fill those blank spaces.
Artists have been mocked. Actors, actresses and models have been labelled. Innovators have been doubted. Writers have been rejected. Musicians have been dropped. Anyone who works differently is outed. As she begun auditioning, Meryl Streep was told she was “ugly”. Now she is widely thought of as one of the greatest actresses of her time. In his role as a contributor for the San Francisco Examiner, Rudyard Kipling was fired for not knowing “how to use the English language”. Now he continues to be known as a successful writer.
We can’t stop what people say about us. But we can choose what we listen to. Some people are ignorant, insecure and envious. Others are kind, passionate and encouraging. Absorb the positive energy and brush off the rest. You, and you alone, know what you’re capable of. Don’t let anyone tell you differently. Just believe in yourself and show them.
We are not trainwrecks. We are not washouts. We are not tragedies. We are not wastes of spaces. And even if we can’t convince ourselves otherwise, so what? We’re all these at some point in our lives. We’re only human. We’re only capable of so much. And sometimes things don’t work out. We’re not defined by our mistakes. We are not defined by our baggage. We are not defined by other people’s perceptions. So stop letting yourself be defined by them. Live freely. Live boldly. Live deeply.
We are all beautiful. So whether we think we stand out for being too extraordinary or blend in for being too ordinary, we need to let it go and let our beauty shine. Let go of the expectations, of the labels, of the restrictions, and let’s just be ourselves. We all have so much to offer just the way we are. Don’t hide who you are away. Be a fruit loop in a world of cheerios. Not that there’s anything wrong with being a cheerio. As long as you do you.
