Sometimes it’s better to ask for forgiveness, than to ask for permission. Sometimes it’s better to make a mistake, than to not try at all. Sometimes it’s better to put yourself first, than live by someone else’s rules. Live passionately, not cautiously.
Why not bet on yourself? You are in control. You are capable and smart. You are determined and relentless. You have ideas and beliefs. You’ve got everything you need to start right now. You don’t need permission. You don’t need to meet any expectations. You don’t need to pass any tests. Have faith in yourself and you’ll take yourself wherever you want to go. Why bet on yourself? Because it’s too dangerous not to.
Our biggest blessing is that we are the ones in control of our fate. We make the choices. Our biggest misfortune is that we are the ones in control of our fate. We cannot wait around for great things to happen. We should not wait around for permission to make great things happen. We should not shy away from making great things happen because other things we tried never materialised. Only we can make great things happen. We have to choose to make great things happen and to let great things happen. Because greatness lies within us, not outside in the world. We have to be persistent, forgiving, loyal, flexible, and visionary. We are in control of who we are and what we do. And that’s how we’ll make it count, the only way how we’ll make things happen.
As much as they can be our liberators too, three of our biggest obstacles to success are our culture and society, our immediate circle of people, and ourselves. What they have in common is they all have the power to stop us, limit us, control us. They all define right and wrong, capable and incapable, possible and impossible, and through this, we make certain choices, choose certain roads, and travel to certain destinations. But we need to start, or ensure that we are, defining life on our own terms. It all begins with asking ourselves, who are we asking permission from? We have the capacity to achieve and succeed in anything as long as we believe we can and we put time and effort into filling that capacity. We do not need boundaries or limits. We do not need other people’s favour or approval. We need focus and perseverance. Let’s not ask permission from anyone else other than ourselves, and let’s not be the ones to stop ourselves. The question isn’t who is going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me.
