Stay true to yourself. Live how you want to, love who you want to, be who you want to. Extend the same right to others to be true to themselves. We don’t all agree and we’re not all the same, but that’s not something to be afraid of or something we should try to control. It’s something we should embrace, nurture and celebrate. Being different isn’t a curse, it’s a gift. We all emit our own light from our own source. We can all shine together – there’s no need to put someone else out. The more of us who shine, the brighter the world is.
Sometimes the brightest stars are hidden behind the clouds. It’s become a pattern for us to compare ourselves to others. It’s become a pattern to focus heavily on our inabilities or failures. And it’s become a pattern to downplay our capabilities or achievements. We keep ourselves from shining brightly because we don’t think, we don’t believe, we’re good enough. But we are. We need to know that. We need to start sharing everything we have to offer. We need to be proud of ourselves. We need to have faith in ourselves, in the weird and wonderful ways that make us who we are. We need to start spreading our light to those who sit in the darkness. Don’t shut it out. Break those patterns and break the clouds.
In the coldest winters, we can make the sun shine. In the darkest nights, we can make the stars shine. In the roughest storms, we can make the lighthouse shine. And in the coldest, darkest, roughest moments, we can make ourselves shine. Shine even brighter when someone tries to blow the candle out. Don’t underestimate yourself. Nothing can dim the light that shines from within.
