Three ways to be more free

Honesty

Being honest is often daunting, but also liberating. Being honest with others and being honest with ourselves releases the weight of secrets, the pressures of pretence, and the tangles of a tale. We shouldn’t have to lie about who we are or what we do. It gets draining after a while, to the point where we can’t see a way out and life isn’t pleasant anymore. It might be daunting, but it’s true when they say that the truth will set you free.

Letting go of the past

It’s hard for us to forget our mistakes, and even harder for us to forgive ourselves. But whether we accept it or not, the past is done and dusted; it is written already. But that doesn’t mean the pen is out of our hands, that our story is already written. No, our story continues as long as we do. Whatever you do, don’t let it stop because of the past. There’s always time for a plot twist.

Following your heart

Don’t listen to others who tell you who to be, how to be, what to do, if you don’t agree. Whether it’s your family, your friends, your society, nobody has more power over you than you do. It’s exhausting trying to please everyone, meet their high standards, follow what is expected, because nobody’s outlook on life is the same. Nor should it be. Do you and be the best you that you can be. The rest will fall into place.

True to ourselves

Stay true to yourself. Live how you want to, love who you want to, be who you want to. Extend the same right to others to be true to themselves. We don’t all agree and we’re not all the same, but that’s not something to be afraid of or something we should try to control. It’s something we should embrace, nurture and celebrate. Being different isn’t a curse, it’s a gift. We all emit our own light from our own source. We can all shine together – there’s no need to put someone else out. The more of us who shine, the brighter the world is.

Thought of the day: Honesty

Honesty is hailed as a virtue, but often remains unpracticed by many of us. But honesty is not just a virtue, it’s vital. Honesty helps us develop more meaningful relationships. Honesty helps us figure out our next move. Honesty helps us come to terms with situations. We need to be more honest with others and we need to be more honest with ourselves. We need to be more honest about our feelings and our dreams. Because life’s too short to hide away who we are, how we feel, and what we want out of life. It might be uncomfortable, but it will also be healing and in the end liberating. Let’s open up what we shouldn’t ever hide away.

Thought of the Day: Plans

Jim Rohn plan quote

We can’t map out our life coordinate by coordinate. Because when we’re looking down at the map, we can’t see all the intricate details that lie beyond those dots and lines. But that shouldn’t stop us from figuring out where we want to go. To make plans gives us ambition, drive and purpose. Don’t get caught up in the details. Keep trekking, climbing and swimming. Don’t toss yourself into someone else’s plan, because life might end up just passing you by. Keep finding your own truth.
