It may seem strong and heroic to navigate storms alone. But it’s ok to ask for help, to seek comfort, and to find strength in others. Don’t be afraid to be vulnerable. Don’t be afraid of looking defeated. Because those who aren’t are the ones who are the most strong and successful in the end. They lean on others, they take the hand offered to them, and they grow higher because of it.
We all have weaknesses. We all have flaws. We all have vulnerabilities. And so we should. We should be raw. We should be authentic. We should be imperfect. It’s precisely our imperfections that promise living rather than existing. Imperfections are the place where we grow, where we dream, and where we act. Imperfections are where beauty blossoms, character builds, and life happens. Embrace your imperfections. Let people see your imperfections. Know that your imperfections are what make life perfect.
We all value strength, being able to withstand the bullets, the hammers and the rain storms. Whilst we can avoid some and take shelter from some, we will also be struck by some. And with that, we might get wounded. But it’s ok. It’s ok to take time. It’s ok to take a breath. It’s ok to talk to someone. It’s ok to take off our armour. It’s ok to be vulnerable. It doesn’t mean we’re not as strong. Our burning light inside will only shine brighter through the cracks.
We all put on fronts at one time or another. We try to hide how we’re truly feeling from others and sometimes ourselves. Sometimes the strongest are the most sensitive. Sometimes the one surrounded by people is the loneliest. Sometimes the most cheerful are not the happiest. Sometimes the one who seems the most confident has insecurities. We all struggle with certain issues, and it’s not always apparent on the outside. Let’s be mindful of the difference between our perceptions and reality. Treat everyone with kindness, including yourself, because we all go through rough times, even if it doesn’t show. And don’t be afraid to admit how you’re feeling. It’s okay to be vulnerable. And hopefully that will set you free.
Who doesn’t worry too much? We’re all heavily invested in our lives, whether we want to be or not. So naturally, we worry – about everything. But here are three reasons why we shouldn’t be investing time in worrying:
- Worrying serves no useful purpose – It’s a coping mechanism for anticipation, fear and the unknown. But worrying doesn’t clear ourselves of these emotions, it just validates their control over us. Worry deprives us of pleasure, ease and focus on today, because it’s consuming and exhausting. What’s the point? Stop worrying about things that haven’t happened and concentrate on both the blessings and the problems at hand.
- We always expect the worst – To cope with feeling vulnerable and uncomfortable about not knowing where we stand, we take it upon ourselves to try and fill in the gaps. But we often expect the worst of ourselves and of life’s attitude towards us. Although we shouldn’t sail through life expecting diamonds and gold, there’s no point in wasting time and energy worrying about something that never materialises in reality.
- Everything’s going to be ok – If the worst eventuality does roll around, don’t be disheartened. Every cloud has it’s silver lining. And you have the strength to find it and seize it. Save up that energy you spend on worrying for the day you’re going to need a little extra in your pocket. You’ll thank yourself later.
It’s ok to want to be alone, to take time to process and to understand our thoughts and feelings. But if we ever feel overwhelmed, if we feel anxious, scared, hurt or depressed, it’s ok to reach out. Don’t be afraid to express yourself; it might be hard to put everything into words, and sometimes we just need to cry or be held by someone instead. Don’t be afraid to be vulnerable by opening up. We don’t need to, and shouldn’t have to, face things alone. And if we do find ourselves alone, take a deep breath and remind yourself that you’re not alone. Everyone feels alone sometimes. Everyone has felt those same feelings or feels those same feelings as you right now. You’re not alone in this. And you’re going to be ok.
