The worst risk we can take is never taking a risk at all. The worst mistake we can make is never making a mistake at all. Where’s the journey? Where’s the adventure? Where’s the growth? Where’s the magic? You won’t find it hiding yourself away. You won’t find it if you never try anything. Some will work out and some will not. But out of those things that don’t, something better might. Losing that would be the biggest risk, mistake and regret.
Sometimes it’s better to ask for forgiveness, than to ask for permission. Sometimes it’s better to make a mistake, than to not try at all. Sometimes it’s better to put yourself first, than live by someone else’s rules. Live passionately, not cautiously.
We can only try our best. We’re not all-powerful and we’re not all-knowing. We can only make decisions to the best of our abilities. If we do that, we can bear the many mistakes we’ll make and the troubles that life will bring. Because we can’t ask more of ourselves than our best. We’re only human and that’s alright.
Life is a work in progress. It won’t always be easy, it won’t always be perfect, and it won’t always be bright. But it’s those complexities, discrepancies and intricacies that make it worth living. We appreciate more when we have less, appreciate ease when we’ve worked hard, and appreciate light when we’ve sat in the dark. We’re still finding our way and changing our minds and making mistakes and trying again. Life’s a work in progress and we are too. We can design and live as we please. That’s the beauty of life.
Sometimes our mind is clouded by misery and we just can’t seem to shake it. It’s like we’re magnetised to the feeling and it keeps dragging us closer and closer to it, and we can’t seem to stop it. It’s going to be ok. It’s going to be more than ok. It’s going to get better. Whatever the stress, the anxiety, the sadness, the hurt, the anger, you will get through it one way or another. You just can’t give into the pull that keeps dragging you down. You have to try to escape its grasp. Because you will escape it, as long as you keep trying. It’s going to be ok. It’s going to be more than ok. It’s going to get better.
There comes a time when we’ll get caught in a downpour. Our first instinct is to take cover from it. But that isn’t always an option. Sometimes we have to weather it. And whatever we do, we’re bound to get soaked. But that’s ok, as long as we try to do our best. Don’t give into the raindrops of adversity. You’re better than that. You’re smart and courageous and innovative. And even if all else fails, you can still dance in the rain and laugh a little. Keep holding on, because the sun will come out once again and it will shine brighter than before.
Dare to try. Only when we try can we reap the rewards. Because whether we fall flat or soar higher, we’ll see what works and what doesn’t. How can we ever progress without trying? How can we ever grow without failing? Don’t be afraid of mistakes. They’re an essential ingredient to any success. In the end, making mistakes will help you soar higher than ever before. The only time we’ve really failed is when we stop daring to try.
As the year draws to a close, we often take a look at the map of the journey we’ve plotted this year. There might be a few patches of uphill struggle. There might be a few circles, and even a few dead ends. Or maybe a lot. Nonetheless, we should be proud of ourselves and how far we’ve come. Because no matter where we are, our map shows that we tried, we conquered, we learnt something. We remained strong and determined. And sometimes we fell apart and it was ok. We should be proud of what we’ve achieved, no matter how small or how trivial, they seem, even if it’s just bring proud that we didn’t give up on ourselves. Because our achievements have made us into who we are today and who we can be tomorrow. Celebrate those moments and use them as your fuel to make yourself proud next year.
Sometimes we get stuck in our own ways. We can become comfortable, predictable and complacent. And as a result we can lose our passion, drive and creativity. Sometimes we need to disrupt the routine. Whether it’s to test out another strategy, to take a break to find a fresh perspective, or to have the courage to do what we’ve always wanted, we can reignite our energy, innovation and positivity. Sometimes we need to reinvigorate ourselves and kick start our life when it gets a little too slow and familiar.
We all have an endless supply of blank spaces to fill. Spaces to shape who we are. Spaces to discover and explore. Spaces to learn and think. Spaces to try and fall and try again. Spaces to imagine and build. We all have endless opportunities, possibilities, and fates. We’re not stuck on one road or labelled as one person. We can be whoever we want to be, do whatever we want to do, and more. Let’s not limit ourselves. Let’s let go. Let’s make the most of it. Dwell in possibility and fill those blank spaces.
